Maximise your learning and growth

To maximise the benefit for yourself and your future too, we encourage you to complete the whole program. When you sign up for all five modules in the FCA XV Essential Skills Program, you’ll have 15 months to complete them all. So, plenty of time!

Check out the individual module guides for more details, but here is an overview of what is covered in each module.

Module 1 Emotional Intelligence and Emotional Agility

The 20 subjects in this module:

  • Contain real cases and examples from football globally
  • Introduce the topic of Emotional intelligence
  • Provide you with models of emotional intelligence including the concepts of self-awareness, self-management, empathy and social-skills, 
  • Provide you with practical examples of how to understand emotional intelligence
  • teach you how to apply emotional intelligence and how to build higher levels in yourself and your team
  • Deliver an understanding of how the brain and mind work and its connection to yours and other’s performance 
  • Help you understand how you and others respond to certain situations
  • Provide you with an understanding of “happy hormones” and their impact. 


The module also provides something unique: an emotional agility measurement tool you can access for you, your team and your family.

Module 2 Leadership

The 20 subjects in this module:

  • Provide an exciting blend of the latest leadership principles and models to help you build your own picture of the Coach as a leader
  • Contain highly regarded, tried and tested models that will serve you well
  • Include Authentic, situational, exemplary and humble models 
  • Contain insights from contemporary leaders to add weight to the thinking
  • Include case examples from coaches and captains from football and other sports
  • Provide a process for decision-making, prioritisation and risk assessment
  • Encourage reflection on decision-making, prioritisation and risk determination
  • Provide a process for developing shared vision and goals
  • Provide tools and techniques to inspire your team to generate buy-in and be a special place for all who participate


Module 3 Communication

The 20 subjects in this module:

  • Provide an introduction to the key processes involved in communication
  • Draw attention to specific skills such as active listening and non-verbal communication cues
  • Provide practical tools and techniques for presentation skills including how to adapt to different audiences and stakeholders
  • Provide models and guidance for message delivery; giving feedback and dealing with difficult people


This module provides an additional benefit: coaches are provided with a summary of the latest research on on-field communications undertaken by XVenture with Perth Glory coaching staff and players. 

Module 4 Culture 

The 20 subjects in this module:

  • Dig into the essence of great team culture
  • Use the latest thinking, research and analysis of the great teams over the recent period
  • Provide the opportunity to get behind the scenes of long-lasting World class environments and learn first-hand how they have stood the test of time
  • Provide practical steps on how to build your own long-lasting team cultures
  • Provide an understanding of how trust impacts collaboration, cohesion and success
  • Teach how to bring about effective change to non-performing cultures 


Module 5 Resilience

The 23 subjects in this module

  • Introduce the topic of resilience
  • Provide an understanding of how resilience and low resilience affects our health
  • Provide examples of incredible resilience
  • Provide practical steps for those who need help at various levels
  • Introduce the concept of “learned optimism” and how to build this
  • An explanation of how “Learned optimism” can change our attitudes and behaviours by recognising and challenging our negative self- talk as well as other negative thinking 
  • Provide case studies on how elite performers have built greater resilience. Y
  • Provide an introduction to methods for improving focus, energy and attention; reduced distraction both emotional and sensory; practical mindfulness techniques that are used on and off the field; methods for reframing mistakes in a more effective way; practical visualisation, sleep management
  • Provide other techniques which have aided the genuine improvement of resilience.
